OCCURRENCE

A Darwin Core Dataset of Scorpions (Arachnida: Scorpiones) from the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) Collections

Latest version published by Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences on 9 February 2026 Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences
This dataset documents the scorpion collection (Order Scorpiones C.L. Koch, 1850) housed at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), Brussels. It provides a complete and up-to-date checklist of all specimens in the collection, including both fully identified specimens and those with incomplete taxonomic determinations (e.g., identified only to family or genus level). The dataset represents a valuable reference resource for research on biodiversity, systematics, and natural history of scorpions, supporting studies on global biodiversity patterns and environmental change. The data are made available in an open and standardized format, in accordance with FAIR principles, to facilitate interoperability, reuse, and integration with other international scientific resources.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,470 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Downloads

Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:
